Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain Review

Prior to our recent visit to St. Lucia I contacted the resort to request a tour of their properties and they intern invited our entire family including the boys friends to spend the day at the resort.  We were picked up by taxi and taken to the port in Castires for a 45 minute boat ride on a wonderful 55 ft. power boat.  The boat is used by Anse Chastanet under the trade name of Jungle Reef Adventures.  They offer several excursions for hotel and cruise passengers.  The excursions include snorkeling, mountain biking, kayaking and diving.   After arriving at the resort the manager met us at the bar where we were treated to fresh lemonade.  He then took us to the beach and introduced us tour Biyron our beach boy for the day.  Biryon made sure we had enough chairs, towels and chose the prefect thatched hut for us to enjoy.  Peter the manager insisted we unwind with some snorkeling before our tour of the resort.  We happily obliged.  Dave and I had been to Anse Chastanet about 6 years ago and I remembered the snorkeling.  There were tons of fish, so many varieties I lost count.  After snorkeling Dave and I showered and changed for our tour while the boys enjoyed the beach, sailing and some more snorkeling.  Anse Chastanet also treated us all to a wonderful lunch.  We had our choice of buffet or anything from the extensive menu.  The food was as good as I remember.

Now for the real reason I went to Anse Chastanet…the rooms.  As a travel agent I have toured lots of rooms and I must say I have become a bit jaded (careful choice of words) but when I saw what the new Jade Mountain has to offer I was just speechless.

Before I get ahead of myself let me first discuss Anse Chastanet.  The resort is set in a hill side near the town of Soufriere and is also close to the volcano.  There is no pool, just a wonderful black sand beach.  They do offer transportation to your room but the hike to your rooms is beautiful and well worth the effort.  We toured the Deluxe and Premium Hillside rooms at Anse Chastanet and they are gorgeous.  The furniture is simple yet elegant and the views are amazing.  Each room is built with the surrounding landscape taken into account.  There is even a room with a tree growing in it.  Bugs are not a problem; they use yellow light bulbs which do not attract insects.  There is no phone or TV in your room.  Anse Chastanet is all about relaxation.

Deluxe Hillside Room - All rooms are unique but the offer clay tiled floors, four poster beds, open air showers, double sinks and spectacular views.  The room we saw was missing the 4th wall, making for a dramatic view.  These rooms would offer ocean and hillside views.

Premium Room – Again each room is unique but all offer spectacular views of the Pitons.  The 4th wall is missing and they also offer the large open air shower.

Jade Mountain Infinity Pool Suite – These are the jaw dropping suites that we came to see.  From the wood floors to the tiled pool, each amenity is carefully designed and blends perfectly together.   The infinity pools are gorgeous; they are lined with a specially designed glass tile that catches the suns rays illuminating in different patterns depending on the angle of the sun.   The shower offer the large rain drop heads as well as a hand held massager.  The furniture is stylish wood frames complimenting the natural setting perfectly.  Again they offer a beautiful four poster bed.  Also in the room is a spacious Jacuzzi, two plush lounge chairs, a mini fridge, and coffee maker.

Jade Mountain is not yet complete.  They do have some rooms available and when guests of Anse Chastanet tour these rooms they have been able to persuade the management to allow them to book just one or two nights in the completed rooms.  The cost will be high to stay in one of these amazing suites but in my opinion it would make for an incredible vacation.  Dave and I are already talking about staying here for our 25th Anniversary.

If you can ever pry yourself out of the suites, they do offer wonderful guided hikes, tennis, snorkeling, incredible diving, kayaking, sailing, jungle biking and an amazing sunset dinner cruise.

When completed this will be a premier luxury destination of the Caribbean.
